
Internationalise your Classroom
In this course professionals will develop an understanding of the relevance and importance of internationalization at home. Participants will be part of a short Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) project with pre-service teachers from South Africa and Czech Republic. Professionals will develop intercultural and didactical skills which they can use in an international and diverse classroom while participating in the COIL project. Professionals will also learn about innovative tools and didactics to help internationalize the curriculum and the classroom by using a design method named Challenged based learning (CBL) in this project.
Suitbale for
Professionals who have completed at least a higher professional education teacher training and who also teach at a school during the course. Furthermore, an online introductory meeting of 15 minutes with the coordinator prior to the course is part of the registration.
Objectives
Professionals are able to:
- Define internationalization at home and explain its relevance within education.
- Research, analyze and evaluate case studies and projects, in which educators used learning material and tools to enhance internationalization in education
- Participate in a Collaboratice Online International Learning (COIL)-project, have intercultural and professional discussions about teaching or teaching strategies and collaborate with other international pre-service teachers within a community
- Use challenged based learning as a teaching and design strategy for internationalization at home.
- Design well-structured lessons and/or learning material and tools as an example of internationalization at home.
- Present their final design to fellow international students/professionals and justify the relevance of the choices made in designing the plan.
- Evaluate the educational design using constructive feedback of peers and experts.
- Reflect on the COIL project, the discussions and outcomes for its meaning for their current and future teaching career.

The course starts with two tutorials on 9 and 10 February 2026 (tbc) at a UU location. Between 16 February en 27 March students/professionals work in an international group of approx. 4-5 students/professionals) on a citizenship theme. On March 30 and 31 the groups present their educational design online. An average presentation lasts 30 minutes.
