What is this course about?
In this course you will:
- build insight into the relevance and impact of internationalization at home;
- actively collaborate in a short Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) project with pre-service teachers from South Africa and the Czech Republic;
- strengthen intercultural and didactical skills by working in an international and diverse learning environment;
- apply innovative tools and teaching approaches to internationalize the curriculum and the classroom;
- use Challenge-Based Learning (CBL) as a design method to develop and implement internationally oriented education.
What do I learn in this course?
In this course, you as a professional actively develop your expertise and:
- define ‘internationalization at home’ and clearly explain its value and relevance for education;
- research, analyze, and critically evaluate inspiring case studies and projects in which educators use learning materials and tools to strengthen internationalization in education;
- actively participate in a Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) project, engage in intercultural and professional discussions about teaching and teaching strategies, and collaborate within an international community of pre-service teachers;
- apply Challenge-Based Learning as a powerful teaching and design strategy to support internationalization at home;
- design well-structured lessons, learning materials, and educational tools that demonstrate internationalization at home in practice;
- present and substantiate their final design to fellow international students and professionals, clearly justifying the educational and didactical choices they make;
- evaluate their educational design by using constructive feedback from peers and experts to improve quality and impact;
- reflect critically on the COIL project, the intercultural dialogue, and the learning outcomes, and translate these insights into their current and future teaching practice.

This course is designed for professionals who have completed at least a higher professional education teacher training and who also teach at a school during the course.

What is the planning of this course?
- The course starts with two tutorials on 9 and 10 February 2026 (tbc) at a UU location.
- Between 16 February en 27 March students/professionals work in an international group of approx. 4-5 students/professionals) on a citizenship theme.
- On March 30 and 31 the groups present their educational design online. An average presentation lasts 30 minutes.
