What is the course about?

During this inspiring and practical CLIL coaching course, you will work on refining your skills as a CLIL coach. At the start of the course, we will identify what is relevant for the group and make sure these topics are addressed. Examples include: An open listening attitude, enabling you to summarise accurately what your conversation partner is saying and to ask effective follow-up questions.

Using the non-verbal layer in conversations by becoming more aware of your own non-verbal signals and those of others. During the course, you will discover how to shape the role of CLIL coach successfully. We will always look specifically at your needs in relation to the context of your own school. This will give you a clear idea of how you want to support your colleagues effectively, contribute to lesson design, provide support from a CLIL perspective, observe CLIL lessons and give constructive feedback afterwards. You will also learn how to keep track of the needs and development of the bilingual education department.

We will also focus on developing CLIL skills within your team. In what way do you want to, and can you, play a role in further professionalising your school in the field of CLIL? Would CLIL inspiration sessions or safe-space meetings be helpful? Or would you prefer to set up a monthly CLIL café? During this course, you will explore the possibilities and discover which options suit both you and your school.

What will I gain from this course as a professional?

After completing this CLIL coaching course, you will have improved your conversation techniques. You will also have refreshed and deepened your understanding of various fundamental coaching skills, and you will have learned to work with Rosie Tanner’s ALACT model. As a CLIL coach, you may encounter dilemmas or questions from your colleagues, such as:

  • How can I encourage my class to speak more English?
  • How can I use CLIL effectively in my lessons?
  • How can I give effective feedback on students’ English if I am not a language teacher?

You may also face challenges yourself, such as motivating a colleague who is resistant to the CLIL approach, giving constructive feedback to colleagues, or actively raising awareness of your school’s CLIL policy. All of these aspects will be addressed during the sessions. We will discuss a range of practical case studies so that participants can learn from one another.

Upon completion, you will receive a certificate, provided you have attended sufficiently and successfully completed the assignments.
