Introduction in Life Sciences Education Research

This introductory course serves to get basic knowledge about the main research paradigms and learning theories in educational sciences, specifically in the context of life sciences education (Biology, Veterinary Medicine, Biomedical Sciences, Nursing Sciences, Medicine, Farmacy, etc.). Participants will learn to position themselves and their research project within the research domain. This introductory module is obligatory in LSER year 1.

1. Get acquainted with the most important research paradigms and learning theories in the educational domain
2. Get acquainted with and position themselves within the research domain.

Activities:

• Small group assignments to prepare for the meetings
• Individual readings
• Presentations during the meetings
• Active participation

This course is relevant for professionals with research training in one of the life sciences domains, who are getting involved in researching the education in that domain or having a supervisory role in such research projects.

4 months, 1-2 hours per month

Sessions are organized 4 times in the second semester from 3pm- 5pm

• Wednesday February 12 15.00-17.00
• Wednesday March 12 15.00-17.00
• Wednesday April 9 15.00-17.00
• Wednesday May 21 15.00-17.00

Books are included in this course.

When a session is missed or not prepared, the participant will get an alternative assignment. Missing or being unprepared 2 or more sessions, no EC will be given.
